On-Trend Prints That Are Ruling Ethnic Wear This Season

by Drishti Mistry

There’s just something about prints- whether it’s Indian or western wear- they just lend a certain personality to any silhouette. With the right amount of accessorizing prints are easy to dress up or down. Here are our top picks from the designers who own the prints on ethnic wear like no one’s business.

Anita Dongre

Anita Dongre’s prints always arise from a deep understanding of the nature- our current favourites are this long ethnic jacket that features prints inspired by the chaos of the Ranthambore forest, this sleeveless kurta with enchanting elephant prints and this powder blue saree that features rabbit and micro-floral prints reminiscing of the gardens in summer.

Gopi Vaid

While floral prints are a classic, this season, trust Gopi Vaid to do them right- micro and macro, both! Our top picks? This byzantium asymmetric tunic featuring just the right amount of macro-florals, this pastel pink tunic with pristine floral and leaf prints and this greyish-blue kurta with vibrant florals and a handkerchief hemline.

Masaba

A conversation about trending prints without Masaba- the undisputed master of prints- in it is no conversation at all! She is known to translate myriad objects from day to day life into eye-catching prints that leave an impression on the wearer- we love the vintage glass print on this mustard kurta, the corn stamp foil prints on the black and ivory kurta set and the patchwork of banana prints, corn stamp grid prints, pineapple prints, coin prints and rabbit prints on the black fusion lehenga set.

Nikasha

This season, Nikasha gives a crash course in flaunting dainty florals and micro prints – for instance this flowy anarkali featuring mini florals mishmashed with life sized floral prints on the dupatta, or this pastel green kaftan and sharara with tiny florals all over. For us, the one shoulder top with floral foil prints takes the prize for channelling two of the hottest prints of this season in one go!

Payal Singhal

Got a destination wedding coming up? Nothing better than ethnic pieces with tropical prints on them – Payal Singhal does it best with this off-white and lilac tunic and pants set or this peplum kurta with pants and dupatta – perfect for weddings and intimate get-togethers alike. Also, geometric prints never looked better on ethnic wear before we were introduced to this new-age saree by her!

Ritu Kumar

When it comes to experimenting with Indian motifs, one can never go wrong with Ritu Kumar – be it this bell sleeved pastel kurta with oversized circular prints, this bottle green kurti with marigold prints or this long kurta boasting a typically kitschy avatar with it’s pastiche of prints – we bet, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
